‘The Roundup’ Maintains Perfect Streak in Box Office + Exceeds 7 Million Moviegoers

Ma Dong Seok and Son Seok Koo's "The Roundup" show no slowing down.

After making its debut on May 18, the action comedy film, which is also the sequel to "The Outlaws," remains consistent at the box office.

For three weeks, "The Roundup" sustains its perfect streak as the most-watched movie.

'The Roundup' Hits 7 Million Moviegoers

As noted by an outlet, Korea Film Council cited that Ma Dong Seok and Son Seok Koo's film exceeded 7 million moviegoers after airing in theaters for 14 days.

"The Roundup," also known as "The Outlaws 2," garnered 200,000 views on March 31, bringing to a total of 7,013,000 viewers. It even surpassed the number of moviegoers by the first movie that scored 6.88 million cumulative audiences.

Moreover, it is also predicted that "The Roundup" will beat "Spider-Man: No Way Home" after garnering a record of 7,550,000 audiences.

Since it made its theatrical debut, the action comedy film was able to hit several milestones. Just a day after it was released, "The Outlaws" sequel hit its first million mark.

After surpassing the 2 million audiences, "The Roundup" has become the fastest film in three years to reach the million mark, beating the record set by Lee Jung Jae's movie "Deliver Us from Evil" after hitting 2 million in five days.

As the success continued, the second installment hit 5 million in no time and became the first film to achieve a million audience since the 2019 film "Ashfall," making it the highest-grossing Korean movie during the pandemic.

In the blockbuster movie "The Roundup" follows the journey of the skilled Detective Ma Seok Do, played by Ma Dong Seok. He reprised his role to hunt down a notorious syndicate headed by the new villain, Kang Hae Sa, portrayed by Son Seok Koo.

Kang Hae Sa is hiding in Vietnam and is known for committing crimes against tourists.

Joining the duo is fellow lead star Choi Gwi Hwi as Chief Jeon, while supporting characters include Kim Seung Hyun as Korean gangster Avatar, Ha Joon, Park Ji Hwan, and more.

While "The Roundup" dominates the box office in South Korea, the action comedy film has started its worldwide screening.

As noted by Ma Dong Seok or Don Lee on Instagram, he revealed that the movie would also premiere in some parts of North America, particularly in the USA and Canada, which started on May 20.

The same goes for Taiwan and Mongolia, while Singapore and Hong Kong were scheduled on May 26.

Other parts of Asia like Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines are slated to premiere this June.
