One of the most anticipated movies in 2022 is the return of "The Pirates 2."
While the first installment gained an overwhelming response from the audience, the sequel, which stars Kang ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, Lee Kwang Soo, and more, the action-adventure series scored a milestone following its premiere.
Released on January 26, "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" became the first Korean film in 2022 to reach the 1 million mark.
According to an outlet, it only took ten days for the movie to surpass the one million audiences, considering that the world was at the height of the global pandemic, and the Korean government placed strict social distancing guidelines on movie theaters.
In addition, "The Pirates 2" was also released on Netflix, bringing the second installment to a worldwide audience.
There's no doubt why the action-adventure film garnered many moviegoers. For one, it boasts a star-studded lineup drawing viewers' attention.

Kang Ha Neul (Wu Mu Chi)
The Baeksang Arts Awards winner took on the role of the head of the bandits named Woo Moo Chi. From having the boy next door look, Kang ha Neul looks a lot different with his transformation into a pirate.
After making the viewers laugh and entertained with his character in "The Pirates 2," the 32-year-old star is currently appearing in his Kdrama comeback "Insider." He played the role of judicial trainee Kim Yo Han whose life turned upside down after an incident.
Following this, he is also starring in a star-studded series titled "Curtain Call" alongside Ha Ji Won, veteran actor Sung Dong Il and Academy Award-winning Youn Yuh Jung.
In addition to his slew of activities, Kang ha Neul is also returning to the big screen with two upcoming movies.
First is the thriller mystery film, "Streaming," followed by a cameo role in Park Seo Joon and IU's movie "Dream."

From being the feisty pirate chief, Hae Rang in "The Pirates 2," Han Hyo Joo will transform into a superhuman named Lee Mi Hyun for the series "moving."
In the webtoon-based series, her character portrays someone with five powerful senses. She will be joined by Jo In Sung and Ryu Seung Ryong as the lead star.
Lee Kwang Soo (Mak Yi)
Joining the crew of Joseon pirates, Lee Kwang Soo took the role of Mak Yi in "The Pirates 2." He likes to work by himself and doesn't like to seek help from others.
Interestingly, this is also a reunion project between Kang Ha Neul and him, as both stars joined the cast of "A Year-End Medley."
After the action-adventure series, Lee Kang Soo is in talks to join the movie "Gwanghwamun Jealousy Fight" and the comedy film "The Sound of Your Heart."
Moreover, after landing the lead role in "The Killer's Shopping List," the 36-year-old star might return to the small screen with the new Kdrama "Hero."
