'Alchemy of Souls' Episode 1: Naksu's Demise and Resurrection
Episode 1 begins with betrayal as the dying Royal King orders the best mage in the country, Jang Gang (Joo Sang Wook), to cast a spell on them to switch their places for seven days.
Because of the King's power, Jang Gang enacts the magic and switches places with him, not knowing that the King is only after Do Hwa (Bae Gang Hee), his beloved wife.
After 20 long years, Park Jin (Yoo Jun Sang) finally faces the formidable Naksu (Go Yoon Jung), a shadow assassin who uses the bodies of water to take down powerful mages in the country.
Although the former possesses great powers and magic spells, she's also human. When an arrow goes through her chest, she starts to bleed to death.
Luckily, she successfully switches bodies with a blind girl named Mu Deok (Jung So Min). Unfortunately, apart from being blind, she loses her powers as well.
Naksu's body gets examined by the higher ups at the royal temple and wonders where her soul is, worrying about the return of the soul shifters-mages who can be detrimental when they become mad.

On the other hand, episode 1 introduces the Four Seasons of Daeho, the children of the most powerful families.
Jin family's Jin Cho Yeon (Oh My Girl Arin); Park family's Park Dang Gu; Seo family's Seo Yul (Hwang Minhyun); and Jang Uk, the successor of the Jang family.
Unlike the first three, Jang Uk doesn't possess great skills and abilities when it comes to casting spells after his father, Jang Gang, curses him.
In episode 1, it was revealed that Jang Uk is the solid result of the King's betrayal. But, like his father, he's stubborn and overbearing.
Because his gate of energy was cursed by Jang Gang, he needs a great master to teach him the basics of magic at the very least.
When Mu Deok and Jang Uk's lives get tangled together, they become master and servant. Jang Uk grows deeply intrigued by Mu Deok, while the latter buys time to plot her revenge.
At the end of the episode, Jang Uk learns about Mu Deok's real identity after her eyes glisten under the moonlit night.
'Alchemy of Souls' Episode 2: Destined Enemies' Alliance
Because of the blue glint in Mu Deok's eyes-a hints that a different soul resides in the body-Jang Uk figures out who she is.
In episode 2, he offers Naksu, in the form of Mu Deok, allegiance. While she teaches him to become the greatest mage in the country, he will keep her safe from the people plotting her death.
Naksu's men infiltrate Songrim, the mage's realm. Park Jin senses that there was a spy inside Songrim who turned out to be Jin Mu (Jo Jae Yoon), Jang Gang's servant in the past.
Jang Uk then claims Naksu's sword. After all, it belongs to his father Jang Gang, the most powerful figure who took down Naksu.

Because of his situation, he's unable to unsheathe it. He then tries to convince Mu Deok to become his teacher once again as they watch Naksu's body burn in front of the crowd.
Unfortunately, Mu Deok is as weak as Jang Uk. She couldn't unsheathe it, even when her sword recognized her.
As a last resort, Mu Deok poisons Jang Uk with herbal tea in hopes for the mages to open his gate of energy and save his life.
Through this, the poison will be removed from his body, and he will finally be able to cast spells like a true mage.
When Heo Yeom (Lee Do Kyung) opens Jang Uk's energy gates, Mu Deok sees hope and calls him her pupil, confirming their alliance.
