Here's what happened in the new episodes of the much-loved fantasy-romance series!
'Alchemy of Souls' Episode 3: Jang Uk Banished From Songrim
In episode 3, Jang Uk (Lee Jae Wook) recovers from the near-death experience, all thanks to Heo Yeom (Lee Do Kyung) who opened his gates of energy.
Now renewed, he asks Mu Deok (Jung So Min) to finally teach him how to become the best mage in the country.
After Mu Deok sets the rules-never to reveal their relationship and her identity-she ten asks him to practice his breathing to preserve his energy and find his core strength.
However, Seo Yul (Hwang Minhyun), the greatest mage in their age, grows suspicious about Mu Deok's true personality.
Things become more complicated when Seo Yul's bird whistle lands in the hands of Mu Deok, who surprisingly knows how to play it. Unbeknownst to him, she was Naksu, her old friend and love interest.

On the other hand, Jang Uk gets banished from Songrim after he loses his Spirit Plaque-the key to enter the place-which was stolen by Mu Deok to hint to his men that she's still alive.
'Alchemy of Souls' Episode 4: Jang Uk Discovers Truth About Himself
In episode 4, Jang Uk's uncontrollable energy puts him in unbearable cold and heat simultaneously, much to Mu Deok's (Jung So Min) delight.
Because of the energy that has been transferred to him, his body adjusts to the power, which will soon allow him to gain the power as his own.
On the other hand, Crown Prince Go Won (Shin Seung Ho) visits Jang Uk to claim Naksu and his father's swords.
When the latter refuses, the Crown Prince asks him for a duel. However, Jang Uk surprises everyone after he unsheathes his father's sword, including Jin Cho Yeon (Oh My Girl Arin), Park Dang Gu (Yoo In Soo), and Seo Yul (Hwang Minhyun). They are all present at the confrontation.
But because he still couldn't control his energy, Jin Cho Yeon lends help and binds Jang Uk's arm to at least weaken his energy.
When Songrim leader Park Jin (Yoo Jun Sang) learns about the duel, he locks Jang Uk up to fulfill his promise to his father-to never let anyone know about Jang Uk's royal identity.
Moreover, the Crown Prince once again invites Jang Uk to a duel to reclaim his status and reputation.
Mu Deok, who promised to take in Jang Uk as his student, decides to travel to her hometown to train and strengthen Jang Uk.
