'Alchemy of Souls' Episode 5: Mu Deok, Jang Uk Meet the Most Powerful Mage
"Alchemy of Souls" episode 5 begins as Mu Deok tells her story on how she became Naksu, the shadow assassin.
While she belonged to a noble family, the four big families of Daeho slaughtered their clan, leaving her to the hands of Jin Mu (Jo Jae Yoon) and made her the best mage in the world.
As soon as she and Jang Uk arrive at Danhyanggok, they meet the most powerful mage in Daeho, Master Lee (Im Chul Soo).
Master Lee convinces Jang Uk to become his pupil, promising him greatness and stability. However, Jang Uk doesn't want to practice celibacy in exchange of power.
Unbeknownst to everyone, Master Lee figures out that Mu Deok is a soulshifter. Thankfully, he doesn't have a single clue about Naksu.
Jin Cho Yeon Asks Jang Uk For Marriage
An extensive investigation took place in Songrim led by Park Jin (Yoo Jun Sang), who grows utterly suspicious of Jin Mu, a spy from the assassins.
In addition to that, Park Jin tries very hard to keep his promise to Jang Gang (Joo Sang Wook) and never reveal the true identity of Jang Uk's father.
Because of Jang Uk's incapacity to cast spells, he's forbidden to become the next leader of Cheonbugwan.
The wrath of the Crown Prince towards him doesn't help him at all. However, there is only one thing that guarantees him power to lead and decline the prince's duel invitation: marry Jin Cho Yeon (Oh My Girl Arin) and join their family.

Seo Yul Reminisces Heartwarming Memories With Naksu
Jang Uk isn't the only one who's connected to Mu Deok, but also Seo Yul (Hwang Minhyun).
Unlike Jang Uk, Seo Yul was acquainted with Mu Deok when he was still a child. The two often bonded together, summoning beautiful birds and making memories.
When Seo Yul returns to Danhyanggok to visit Jang Uk along with Jang Dang Gu (Yoo In Soo), he remembers his core memories with Naksu.
Little does he know, Mu Deok also remembers him, as well as his small bird trinket and how they climbed the trees when they were still young.
Jang Uk Promises To Be Mu Deok's Pupil
When Jang Uk was in pain, Mu Deok told him a story about a huge tree that nestles on top of a hill that she loved so much.
Because of Mu Deok's weak body, she couldn't do the things she was able to do when she was still Naksu, the shadow assassin.
Climbing things is a huge chore for her. Jang Uk then suddenly promises to take Mu Deok at the top of the tree once he masters every skill he needs, confirming that he'll still train under Mu Deok's guidance.
