"Roppongi Class," the Japanese remake of Park Seo Joon and Kim Da Mi's "Itaewon Class" drew disappointment from viewers.
Released on July 7 through TV Asahi and Netflix, the adaptation is among the highly anticipated shows in Japan since it is based on the webtoon turned K-drama that became a huge hit in Korea back in 2020.
However, the Japanese adaptation seems like it is not getting the same response as the original series after netizens and viewers were saddened and dismayed at how it was portrayed.
In a report, many complained about the drama quality of the TV Asahi's "Roppongi Class" which was quite far from the original.
As mentioned in a report, online communities were comparing the same scenes in both dramas, criticizing the Japanese remake for its "poor performance."
In particular, viewers pointed out the slapping scene where Jo Yi Seo, played by Kim Da Mi, just turned 20, and to celebrate it, she invited her friends to drink in Itaewon and was joined by some group of men.
The same scene was portrayed in "Roppongi Class" but viewers were not satisfied with the slapping scene, even calling it a "lame scene."
Based on the report, netizens made harsh comments saying that the actors' "facial expression looks like an amateur." In addition, some raised that "there's a reason Japanese dramas are ruined."
"Roppongi Class" cast stars Takeuchi Ryoma as Park Sae Roi, Hirate Yurina as Jo Yi Seo, and Araki Yuko as Oh Soo Ah.
