'Island' is Being Criticize Regarding the Lukewarm Responses It Receives

On December 30, the much-awaited K-series "The Glory" and "Island" made their grand debut on primetime. Both dramas made successful premieres, with already two episodes released on day one.

"Island" is a fantasy-action hero series about people digging into hidden secrets and fighting against evil. The drama is based on the famous cartoon and webtoon of the same name. Apart from its compelling story, it has its stellar cast members Kim Nam Gil as Van, Lee Da Hee who plays Won Mi Ho, a chaebol heiress, and Cha Eun Woo, a young priest named Yo Han.

However, different from Netflix, some are saying that the first two episodes of "Island" released on December 30, did not draw much interest as only the overall narrative build-up was shown.

In particular, in episode 1, lead actor Kim Nam Gil only has five minutes of screen time. In addition, the episode was filled with Mi Ho's journey and coming down to Jeju Island to meet the lust demon for the first time. At the end of the broadcast, Kim Nam Gil left an impression with the appearance of killing the lust demon in an instant.

In episode 2, the story of how Van became a half-human and half-monster-and the narrative of Mi Ho's previous life were revealed.

According to a report, the repeated development of Mi Ho, who is constantly being chased by a demon, and Van saving her got boring in the eyes of some viewers.

Lee Da Hee's performance was also similar to her previous work. Her attitude as the chaebol heiress was not different from what viewers saw in "The Beauty Inside" and "Search: WWW." The actress' action scenes also reminded the audience of her performance in "L.U.C.A.: The Beginning."

The celebrity's expressions are also said to have remained the same in "Island."

Did 'The Glory' Surpass 'Island's' Popularity During Its First Release?

Within TVING and despite having a production budget of $16 Billion (20 billion won), "Island" took second place after "Work Later, Drink Now 2" after its release in terms of the number of weekly paid subscription contributors and viewing but the public reaction was not that great.
