"Siren: Survive the Island" director Lee Eun Kyung spilled some details regarding the hottest Netflix survival show, and the reason it didn't have a cash prize.

Following the massive success of "Physical: 100," the streaming giant introduced another all female survival show featuring 24 strong and powerful women that came from various fields and professions.

Consisting of police officers, bodyguards, soldiers, athletes, stuntwomen, and firefighters, each team must complete and win each round as they compete for survival on a remote island.

Basically, the new South Korean reality show is "Physical: 100," but without the men.

Here's Why 'Siren: Survive the Island' Has No Cash Prize

Interestingly, while most reality shows offer whopping prizes, "Siren: Survive the Island" veers away from the usual survival show.

During the interview of Na Young Seok with director Lee Eun Kyung and screenwriter Chae Jin Ah, as obtained by a media outlet, they explained the reasons behind the absence of a cash prize.

The director pointed out the true essence of the show, which is to highlight the empowerment of women in a male dominated field; hence, the participants were soldiers and women in uniform.

"The participants are public servants who have staked their professional honor on this competition," the PD explained, as obtained by a media outlet.

Moreover, Lee said that the majority of them joined not for the reward but for the honor and recognition in their line of work.

"From the start, they didn't come to fight for money but for honor. That's why there's no cash prize," the "Siren: Survive the Island" director added.

Despite the show having no cash prize, Lee Eun Kyung clarified that the participants were compensated for the effort and time that they've put in for the program.

"We value the time and courage of everyone who participated in our show, so we decided to give an equal fee to all for the seven days," as explained by the director.

Furthermore, the director also mentioned that there is "a limit to how much public servants can receive due to the civil service law."

Normally, these types of shows would charge an appearance fee on a per-episode basis and no fee for participants who are eliminated right away, but in "Siren: Survive the Island," they considered the efforts that the participants gave to the show.

Why 'Siren: Survive the Island' is Must-Watch

Premiered on May 30, "Siren: Survive the Island" was divided into two parts; the first five episodes aired on the said date, and the second part was broadcast a week later.

In the 10-episode reality series, the 24 participants are divided into six groups according to their profession. One of the Team Soldier members includes "Physical: 100" season 1 contestant Kang Eun Mi.

In the newest Netflix reality show, the concept focuses on women's empowerment and shows the viewers that women can also do well in male-dominated fields.
