Taipei, June 9 - The issue of "sasaeng" fans has once again reared its head, this time affecting South Korean actor Byeon Woo-seok during his recent visit to Taiwan.
On June 9, a Taiwanese media outlet reported troubling incidents involving overly obsessive fans who went to extreme lengths to track the actor's movements.
Byeon Woo-seok, who was in Taiwan for a fan meeting, found himself at the center of unwelcome attention as fans rented over ten cars in a single day to pursue him.
The report detailed how these fans resorted to pressing elevator buttons on every floor of the hotel he was staying at in an attempt to locate him.
Furthermore, they followed him to a restaurant he visited post-meeting, compromising his safety and privacy.
This incident is not an isolated one. Byeon Woo-seok has faced similar issues back in South Korea.
Even during a private event such as a drama wrap-up interview, fans have shown up uninvited, highlighting a disturbing trend of boundary-crossing behaviors.
In response to the increasing number of such incidents, Byeon Woo-seok's agency issued a statement on May 30, voicing their concern over the disruptions caused by these overzealous fans.
The agency condemned the unauthorized attendance at non-public schedules and the distress it brings to both the artist and the event organizers.
They urged fans to respect the artist's privacy and refrain from attending locations that are not publicly disclosed.
This is the agency's statement that highlighted the seriousness of the situation, warning against the following behaviors:
- Pursuing the artist's vehicle post-schedule
- Unauthorized visits and filming at private locations, including his residence
- Illegally obtaining and using personal information
The agency made it clear that such actions would result in strict legal consequences, aiming to protect Byun Woo-seok from further harassment.
Despite these warnings, it appears that some fans are disregarding the appeals for privacy, continuing to intrude upon Byeon Woo-seok's personal space.
