The hit tvN drama "Love Next Door" has already brought rising ratings, but also criticism of a recent scene involving lead actor Jung Hae In.
On Thursday night's episode, which aired on Sept. 22, the actor's character Choi Seung Hyo shared a romantic moment with Jung So Min's Baek Seok Ryu and shared an intimate kiss and a heated exchange of dialogue.
According to KBS reporters, however, Korean netizens were disappointed and felt that the dialogue between the characters felt more awkward than genuine.
At the time of the kiss, the characters' romance, which had been kept secret until then, was turning into a more open and profound one. "I feel like I'm having bad, cheap, and dirty thoughts," Seung Hyo confessed, to which Seok Ryu replied, "I used to eat junk food, so it's okay to have bad thoughts," followed by another kiss and a more intimate scene.
The actors' intention was to depict their relationship transitioning from innocent to mature, but viewers felt differently.
After the episode aired, comments on online community Instiz were written, such as, "I must say, the dialogue feels like it's from a 20-year-old drama," and "I can't believe actors actually had to deliver such outdated lines."
According to Nielsen Korea, the episode also concluded with strong viewership, with a peak rating of 9.1% in the Seoul metropolitan area.
