Actor Lee Dong Wook is at the center of controversy for posting the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) statement to high school students.
Lee was among many celebrities in South Korea who posted supportive messages on social media as the exam season got underway.
In a message addressed to students, Lee hoped they would gain the marks they wanted, recognizing their pressure as they make the transition through this important stage of their lives.
"I've always written messages of support around this time, and not sure how much strength this will bring from my end, but wishing everyone out there all the best; I hope you all get the score you want," he wrote. "I mean, I always support everyone... but this is the CSATs... so I'm cheering for the kids once a year."
But some fans said they felt left out by the students-only statement Lee issued. They claimed he should help everyone struggling—office workers and business owners.
After receiving backlash, he put out a follow-up post saying, "Of course, I am supporting office workers, college students, business owners, and everybody! Never be left out, never have that feeling, and may everyone of my Bubble be happy 💓"
Lee said he was burnt out by negative reactions, even as he tried to address them.
"Anyway, there's so much traffic... I want to go home so bad!" He lamented. "I am so tired; I was burnt out trying to support the students," he added.
The majority of netizens that have reacted to the complaints aimed at Lee have mostly done so very negatively, labeling them as childish and urging sympathy and understanding that this is such a critical time for students.
On Korean community forum, theqoo, there were comments like "Please act your age... he's just trying to support the students," and "If you received support before... know when to give back."
