Wang, whose work includes a string of Chinese films, went missing in Bangkok on January 3, where he had been brought for a shoot by a Thai production team.

They were contacted later that day in Mae Sot, a city on Thailand's border with Myanmar, which attracts people looking for work but where many are overcharged or subjected to criminal activities.

The actor was revealed to be missing after his girlfriend made a public social media post.

She described how Wang had been escorted past Thai immigration by someone who portrayed himself as part of a film crew and later taken to Mae Sot.

Following the public outrage, Thai police began an investigation.

On January 6, they found Wang and confirmed that he has become a victim of human trafficking and fraud syndicates.

Wang was lured into the group and then forced to cross into Myanmar, authorities said.

The actor described being brought to a facility where armed but not uniformed personnel were held at a distance from him, with the actor suffering a similar fate to other victims of telephone scams.

"I can't sleep. I can't eat. And I didn't even have the time to pee," he said to the South China Morning Post, noting he was made to practice writing under immense pressure for several days.

According to him, at least 50 other people trapped at the facility were from different countries.

Wang's encounter has shined a light on the threat of fraudulent job scams, with others stepping forward with similar tragedies happening to their family members.
