Korean netizens who follow the tvN K-Drama "When The Stars Gossip," featuring popular actors Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin, have been set ablaze with criticism of a single episode after a controversial scene dealing with sex and pregnancy.
The plot of Episode 6 revolves around a romance between an astronaut (played by the delightful Eva Green, who plays the part of the OBGYN in a space station.
For example, in a scene where Commander Eve Kim (Gong Hyo Jin) inquires whether a pair of mice would "Do it," Gong Ryong (Lee Min Ho) insists, "When it comes to sex and pregnancy, I'm the expert."
The English translations are less direct, but Korean viewers had no problem commenting on the outrage over the actual dialogue as the need to 'fuck and impregnate' was spelled out clearly for all Korean-speaking viewers.
As soon as the episode aired, online fandoms exploded with malaise. Some, however, have criticized the way OBGYNs were described as "breeders," and decried the show's ₩50 billion KRW (approx. $34.3 million USD) budget as "wasteful," also wondering about the quality of writing and direction.
"This is offensive," One OBGYN viewer commented. "I am a doctor who sees women, NOT a fricking breeder."
Many others in online community forum, theqoo, also said the script should never have gotten past so many rounds of vetting.
Another replied, "The scriptwriter expended zero effort to make this anything resembling a sci-fi film. Instead, she souped the whole script up with sex."
The backlash is a sign of rising displeasure among fans towards K-Dramas they deemed low-quality or disrespectful.

Viewership ratings have also dropped to an all-time low, and "When The Stars Gossip" has already received criticism over its vested view of its supporting characters.
With conversations online continuing, the question on the minds of many is how a company like EA "could be so dumb" with such a big production.
Fans going on to demand more intelligent writing and proper respect for business positions in the future.
