Fans of the Netflix original medical K-drama The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call are clamoring for a second season, and comments from the show's director and lead cast have given them even more reason to be optimistic.
Speaking to Chosun Biz, director Lee Do-Yoon, who also worked on the series, recently noted the ambiguity regarding whether the show would continue but didn't rule out the possibility of a Season 2 and expressed a desire to return.
Lee commented, "I don't know what will happen tomorrow, so I don't know if I will do it or who will take charge of season two, but I have prepared my own devices just in case."
FlixPatrol charts show the series has remained in Netflix's Top 10 across dozens of markets, including the U.S., South Korea, and Australia, since its release on January 24.
On the other hand, star Ju Ji Hoon stressed the role of public demand in determining the prospect of the show further. During the same interview, he said, "In the end, it's up to the public."
However, considering how long it took to get the first season, fans might not see a second season until 2027. But given how popular the show is, this could make renewal decisions happen fast.
Netflix is still streaming The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.
The series stars Ju Ji Hoon, who plays Baek Kang-hook, a skilled surgeon who must return from the battlefield to take a troubled trauma team under his wing. It is based on a noted web novel and webtoon.
The character of Ju is based on the real-life Professor Lee Guk-jong, whose efforts to further trauma care in Korea inspired the show.
For research, Ju read detailed documents on Professor Lee in preparation for his role. In a recent interview, Joo said, "I could feel his commitment to saving lives. This helped me with connecting to my character."
Combining riveting drama with fantasy heroism, the series showcases Baek Kang Hyeok rising to meet the challenges set forth by his medical community. Ju Ji Hoon and Kim Hye Soo talked about the accessible way the show tackles social issues.
Another highlight of the series is the chemistry between Ji Hoon and Choo Young Woo, who acts as Yang Jae-won, a fellow surgeon and disciple of Baek.
Choo has been praised for her warm, deep performance which reveals how much he has matured as an actor and character.
Fans are expecting that actor Choo Young Woo would be thrilled to reprise his role as Yang Jae-won. JoyNews24 reported that Choo said, "I definitely agree. I have grown along with Jae-won. If there is a season 2, I definitely want to work with him in any role."
