Lea Michele's "Cannonball" video has been unleashed into the world, and the Glee star is now gearing up for the release of her first album. The first single off her upcoming record, Louder, "Cannonball" is an emotional piano piece that seems designed to showcase Michele's solid vocals. The video accompanying the song was exactly that as well.
The Broadway veteran's first ever music video as a solo artist turned out to be quite a poignant one. It starts out with Michele in a lonely, dark, house, wearing black and looking extremely sad. As the song goes on however, the video progresses into a colorful, light-filled extravaganza, with Michele wearing white and looking like a full-fledged star in the end.
The brunette diva told MTV News that the song helped her cope with the death of her boyfriend and Glee co-star Corey Monteith in July last year. "The minute I heard the song, I had a physical reaction to it. For me, it's been my strength. I listen to it every day. I know it was brought into my life for a reason. It's really been so helpful for me and I hope it's the same for other people as it's been for me."
Produced by Stargate and co-written by Sia and Benny Blanco, the song truly fits what the heartbroken star has been going through. It starts out with the phrase, "I was scared to death I was losing my mind," and then segues into phrases that say, "But I won't hide inside, I gotta get out." Then Michele sings in the end, "And now I will start living today. Today, today I close the door. I got this new beginning and I will fly. I'll like a cannonball."
Her album Louder is set to come out on March 4. It will feature 11 tracks, all of which will be pop. Though she has been a part of the enormously successful Glee albums, Louder will be her first solo effort.
