The Golden Globes were all surprises on Sunday. Would you have believed host Poehler won an award herself after one report described her as 'killing' the presentation on stage - killing in a good sense of the word. Even she would not have guessed she would win.
Responding to the Question, Poll: How are Tina and Amy doing? on CNN, online viewers responded:
81% - they are doing fine
41% - they are doing better than last year.
The globes were watched by 21 million viewers on TV, according to statistics by Industry Journal Variety.
The show lasted about three hours and revealed an increase of 6% from last year's 19 percent, tagged by Nielson ratings.
The sharp increase in popularity since 2004 is attributed to the comedy of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler - they are hosting the show for a second time this year. And they will do so for a third time next year.
TV critic for Time magazine James Poniewozik was quoted as saying by yahoo.com, "Last night's show worked once again because of two hosts who know how to do TV, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler."
Before Fey and Poehler took over the show last year, the Globes were presented by the hilariously funny Rick Gervais, who turned the TV show 'office' into the America's living room with lots of humor and edgy jabs at his fellow employees.
A one liner brought the house down when Fey introduced the film, 'Gravity'. Purportedly, it was the best line of the day: "'Gravity' is nominated for best film. It's the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age."
