Star Wars fans, looks like it's not going to be a "galaxy far far away" after all as the newest Star Wars CGI animated series gets a new character, or to say the least a new droid.
Everyone meet C1-10P a.k.a. "Chopper" is the 2nd character introduced to Star Wars Rebels along with new villain 'The Inquisitor'. Chopper's design is based on original concept art drawings for the first "Star Wars" movie in 1977 by Ralph McQuarrie, specifically R2-D2. The idea is that, since the events of the series occur just before the events of the 1977 movie, the design should, in part, reflect that '70s sense of design.
Chopper, as described by Art Director Kilian Plunkett, "is extremely belligerent and very rude and will only do things if suits him."
"The biggest difference between Chopper and R2 is that R2 actually cares if we like him, Chopper doesn't care at all, he just has no manners."
"Ultimately he means well it's just hard to tell."
Executive Producer Dave Filoni sums him up as, "If R2 is your favourite dog. Chopper's a cat!"
His role in the series is that he's in charge of the maintenance as one the crew members of the Ghost, keeping the ship functional and operational for the heroes as he is the only one who could do it, whether he likes it or not.
Star Wars Rebels takes place between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, which spans about two decades.
The show will premiere in the fall as a one-hour special on Disney Channel, before debuting as a series on sister channel Disney XD worldwide.
