The Hunger Games: Mockingjay release dates won't be affected by Philip Seymour Hoffman's death, but the movies' production team will have to rework one crucial scene. The actor, who plays Plutarch Heavensbee in the franchise, has reportedly finished the majority of his involvement in the last two installments of the Hunger Games movies. He has filmed all of his scenes for Mockingjay Part 1 and only had seven days of filming left (equivalent to one scene) for Mockingjay Part 2.
A Lionsgate executive told The Hollywood Reporter that the actor's death won't have an impact on the first Mockingjay movie's release date in November 2015. However, the scene that the actor wasn't able to do will require some work. He said, "We're all extraordinarily sad. But as it relates to production, it's going to have no impact. Obviously, we're going to have a couple of work-around issues but the movie will be creatively whole. His performances in both [remaining] movies will be up to the best of his craft. We feel it will be a good tribute to him."
A source tied to the project also revealed that the production team has some not-so-complicated plans in making the missing scene. "You can do digital things, you can have conversations where you're not focusing on him but the people he's talking to," the source said.
The Hunger Games cast and crew are mourning the loss of their comrade. The star of the movies, Jennifer Lawrence, along with director Francis Lawrence, and Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, have released a statement in behalf of the entire cast and crew. It said, "Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family."
Hoffman, 46, passed away in his New York apartment last February 2. The cause of death is yet unknown, but early speculations suggest a drug overdose.
