Heroes Reborn will be the name of the original show, Heroes, when it returns to TV as an NBC event miniseries. The science fiction television drama is getting revived and is expected to come out in 2015.
NBC ran a very quick teaser for the show during the Olympics coverage on Saturday. It was just a slow motion graphic of the old Heroes logo, with an added Reborn underneath.
The production company followed it up with an official announcement by NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke, posted on the NBC website for Heroes. It stated that the show's original creator and executive producer, Tim Kring, will be back to lead the project. It also said that Reborn will have 13 episodes, with a new, standalone story arc.
"The enormous impact 'Heroes' had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening. Shows with that kind of resonance don't come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We're thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won't rule out the possibility of some of the show's original cast members popping back in," Salke said.
The studio is keeping casting details under wraps for the moment and there is no word on which of the original cast members will be coming back, if any. Zachary Quinto, Adrian Pasdar, Masi Oka, Ali Larter, Hayden Panettiere, and Milo Ventimiglia are just some of the original series' stars on the possible comeback roster.
Heroes ran for four seasons, from 2006 to 2010. It was about a group of people with special abilities, and showed how they discovered and dealt with their seemingly super powers. The first season was praised by critics and got a record 14.3 million viewers in the United States alone.
