Robin Thicke and Paula Patton have split up, ending their marriage of nine years. The singer and the actress, who have been together for 22 years, released a statement to People, announcing that they are no longer an item.
The statement said, "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time." The pair did not give a reason for the break up.
The grapevine has certainly been buzzing about the longtime Hollywood couple since Thicke released his video for his hit song, "Blurred Lines", in early 2013. The controversial music video showed Thicke and his collaborators, T.I. and Pharrell, flirting with topless models. It was actually banned from YouTube for being too raunchy, though another version with the models simply scantily clad has also been released.
When questioned by the media about it, Patton denied having been affected. The Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol actress simply shrugged off any concerns. She admitted to being a little jealous, but also that she found it sexy.
Thicke's equally controversial performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with his fellow controversial artist, Miley Cyrus, also caused quite a stir. On the live show, Cyrus twerked against Thicke in a number of very suggestive ways, but Patton still insisted she wasn't fazed. She told E! News, "It doesn't affect me any more at all."
Then came the suspicious-looking picture of the music artist with socialite Lana Scolaro at a VMA after-party. Scolaro posted the photo of her and Thicke posing for a picture, but a mirror behind them showed his hand on her behind. Scolaro has since admitted that his hand was indeed feeling her up, but said she didn't know there was a mirror behind them. Scolaro also posted another pic of her and Thicke looking very close later in the night at the same after-party.
After that, the hits kept on coming. Thicke was photographed having too much fun, partying it up at a nightclub in Paris. He was seen in several pictures with a sexy lady, who had her arms around him, whispering in his ear.
The 36-year-old Thicke and 38-year-old Patton were childhood sweethearts, having met in high school in 1993. They got married in 2005 and had a son named Julian in 2010.
