Samsung Unpacked 2014 live stream was a chance for the world to see the Samsung Galaxy S5 unveil at the MWC in Barcelona.
It was a unique event in every sense of the word and Samsung has been know to put on great launch shows like it did in 2013 for the release of the Samsung S4.
'Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 1' began as scheduled on Feb. 24 in Barcelona from Center Conventions International Barcelona (CCIB). The Samsung website and its official Youtube channel transmitted the event, where it would unveil next-generation mobility products.
2pm EST: The show began with a performance by the Barcelona Opera House Orchestra, which set a delightful ambience to the launch event.
2:30pm EST: Samsung's Electronics Chief David Park took to the stage welcoming everyone to the event.
2:40 pm EST: JK Shin, CEO and president of Samsung Mobile appeared on stage to introduce the Samsung Galaxy S5, a moment that everyone was eagerlyy waiting for.
2:45pm EST: Shin walks the audience through the highlighted features and specs of the S5 - HDR rich color photos, LTE+WiFi super fast connectivity and connection booster.
3:00pm EST: The announcements about the acqua waterproof, dustrproof features were well worth the wait since Sony had a similar feature on its Xperia. He also talked about Knox technology and staying fit while connected to the Samsung Gear 2 released earlier.
3:15pm EST: VP of European telecommunications Jean-Daniel Ayme took over after CEO Shin said his thank you's and said he would discsuss S5 details further on Tuesday.
Ayme discussed the ultra power saving mode of the Galaxy S5, which literally turns the phone into a black and white phone, putting its color scheme in hybernation. This mode also puts SMS on hold, a feature most users would find enticing.
He reminded users that while the S5 is waterproof, it is certainly not water resistant. This means that it is ok to play music using the S5 in the shower, but it is not ok to dunk your phone in water. That being common sense, Samsung watchers probably would like to have a smartphone that is water resistant, just like a watch would be - something that water can't get into.
CEO Shin began talking about what Samsung consumers supposedly want in terms of the simple basics of a smartphone: The choice for consumers is simple according to Samsung: a great camera, staying fit, security and privacy. And the speakers throughout the Unpacked event talked about the redundant theme.
Although the theme behind the simple 5-step innovation would have one think that the S5 is a drastic variant from the S4, it really is not that different except for a few changes like a bigger displya and a large-sized battery to go with it.
The back cover has a perforated design, which will reduce overheating and the S5 he was holding was a electric blue gold. Samsung would also be adding designer covers to the S5's.
The specs for the Samsung Galaxy S5 include an 5.1" Amoled display. adaptive display or enhanced disply technology which enables natural light to be optimized to reduce use of battery and longer battery life.
The S5 uses incoming light for optimal best viewing experience. You can browse the web all day and the S5 offers 12 hours of video playback
The camera is one of the most advanced features of the S5. It has a fast hdr rich tone, selective focus,PDAF, hybrid 16MP sensor, covers moving subjects and takes good pictures using hdr in little or too much light.
The S5 also touts the fastest auto focus, contrasts to real light when the picture is taken. In terms of connectivity, the phone has a faster speed network and facilitates high traffic volume for every carrier and the coverage has no buffering. It is outfitted with a download booster wifi with lte that offers blazing downloads at 1GB/30 secs. This is 5th generation wifi providing double wifi speed and is the world's first in a smartphone, reminds Ayme.
The S5 adopts fingerprint ID and protects data via a finger scanner and fingerprint slide for secure payments. The finger scanner enables private mode, which locks all information of the user.
This is also a kid friendly feature, enabling free install apps games and videos while securing data on the phone.
On the whole the S5 is not that much different from its predecessor, leaving Samsing watchers wanting more from a new flagship. Samsung has had some trouble over concept clarity, particularly with apps, and the S5 too seems to be overloaded with little direction. In contrast, Apple has a way of creating seamless apps on a phone that resonates a single theme or at least makes using the iPhone look simple.
