An investor suggested a crazy idea to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata: he wants Mario to jump higher for just 99 cents! Whether ornot it's a bad idea, we'll let Satoru Iwata decide.
Seth Fischer, founder of Oasis Management and a shareholder of Nintendo, recently sent a letter to the Nintendo president. In the letter, Seth Fischer wants Nintendo to make a move into the mobile space by creating games for smartphones and suggested an idea that the company could charge as little as a dollar to make Super Mario jump a little higher.
I'm not even sure if mobile players would accept that idea that they will pay 99 cents just make Mario jump higher.
Fischer wrote in a letter obtained by WSJ that says,
"We believe Nintendo can create very profitable games based on in-game revenue models with the right development team. Just think of paying 99 cents just to get Mario to jump a little higher."
"The same people who spent hours playing Super Mario, Donkey Kong, and Legend of Zelda as children are now a demographic whose engagement on the smartphone is valued by the market at well over $100 billion."
Last month, Nintendo confirmed in its policy briefing that it will make an app for smartphones, though it didn't rule out the possibility that it may release games for mobile.
"It is our intention to release some application on smart devices this year that is capable of attracting consumer attention and communicating the value of our entertainment offerings, so I would encourage you to see how our approach yields results," Iwata said last month.
Iwata also said that it would be completely misleading if one is to say that Mario is coming on smartphones.
If ever that idea comes in the near future, one would assume that Mario games will not be the same again.
