"The Conjuring 2" is happening and Patrick Wilson and Vega Farmiga are returning as the paranormal investigators, the Warrens.
Undoubtedly one the smash hits of last year was "The Conjuring". The James Wan directed horror movie was made for $20 million, but took in an astounding $137 million in the US, and $318 million worldwide! Because of its success a sequel was announced.
Even before the film hit theaters, New Line clearly knew they had a winner, as they had already invested in getting a sequel developed. For months we heard nothing new about "The Conjuring 2", but now we've got updates on its cast, plus a "The Conjuring 2" release date of October 23, 2015.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have signed on to "The Conjuring 2", reprising the roles of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the married couple who cover paranormal investigations as a team. At this time the sequel has no story and a director attached. James Wan, the director of the first film, is currently in the midst of making "Fast & Furious 7", the production of which was thrown into jeopardy following the tragic and unexpected death of its star Paul Walker. It is unlikely Wan will return to direct "The Conjuring 2" but the studio says he will be involved in some way.
James Wan had been talking about possible story ideas for "The Conjuring 2" so it is likely that his involvement in "The Conjuring 2" is writing or pitching what the story of the sequel is about.
However it has been reported that "The Cojuring" screenwriters Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes might follow the lead of the other major investigation they hinted at in the first film, The Amityville Horror case.
