John Mayer News Update: Katy Perry and John Mayer have allegedly split after a year-and-a-half-long romance.
According to E! News, the "Dark Horse" singer ended her relationship with the singer-songwriter within the past few days. After the couple attended Grammy weekend and the Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer event together in Los Angeles in late January, Mayer is not seen to accompany Perry on a recent trip to Europe.
According to News, dispatch of a split is something of a surprise given Perry has recently been wearing a massive diamond ring, and the two made a loved-up appearance on Ellen. Perry also recorded a duet with Mayer for his most recent album Paradise Valley.
"I've been a fan of John's for years before I got to actually kiss him," Perry said to an interviewer. "I've been such a fan, I think he's so incredibly talented and gifted and a genius songwriter. So to be a part of anything he was doing was just natural."
After their first split in 2013, Mayer has been a lot more cautious about their union, he said, "It was a very private relationship going in. It was a private relationship during and it's a private relationship still." News said that the two first went public with their off-and-on romance in mid-2012. They called it quits briefly, reconciled, split again last March, but then seemed closer than ever.
MTV wrote that In December, Perry expressed something about Mayer in a Marie Claire cover story that things had gotten very serious again.
"I took a break from my boyfriend, not one that I wanted. It was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with me," she said at the time. "That is what led me to this new awakening, this realizing, 'If I don't do some self-love, I'm not going to be able to keep the love that I want.'" In the piece, she called Mayer a "fantastic partner" and said she'd been a big fan of his for a long time. "He's got a brilliant, brilliant mind ... It's a rad, mature relationship."
Earlier this month, the couple released a picture from their intimate Mario Sorrenti photo shoot for the cover of Mayer's "Love" single.
BillboardBiz reported that Engagement rumours had been swirling around the couple for months. Mayer will continue touring internationally behind "Paradise Valley" in April, while Perry's PRISMATIC world tour begins in May.
John Mayer's official website, johnmayer.com/tour, announces his international spring tour. Mayer will be on tour again this spring with dates in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Scandinavia.
