U2 is releasing a new album this year! Last week, there were reports stating that the band may have to delay their 13th studio album, supposedly to be named "Songs Of Ascent," and a fall tour until 2015 as they needed more time with producers Paul Epworth and Ryan Tedder (One Republic) in the studio. However, in an exclusive report with The Guardian, the band's representatives say, "U2's album is planned for this year, is still on track, and touring plans haven't been confirmed yet." "Songs of Ascent" is said to be released in late 2014.
There was no additional information about the band's follow-up album to 2009's "No Line on the Horizon" album. U2 performed a new song called "Ordinary Love" at the Academy Awards last Sunday, March 2, and released a charity single called "Invisible" during the Super Bowl. They are reportedly working extensively with the producer Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells) on their 13th album. Previously, producer Steve Lillywhite produced four of their albums, and shared co-production credits on four other albums.
"It seems to be taking longer for them to finish an album as they get older, but the great thing about U2 is that the whole of a record is always better than the sum of its parts," a source told Billboard. "That magic that the band always seems to capture ... they have yet to capture it."
