Apple isn't short on surprises for their customers, after the release of iOS 7.1 last Monday. Apple made another revelation regarding the rumoured new iOS 8 update and its new features will include an upgraded map application and a public transit direction service. Not bad for a rumored software upgrade.
Apple CEO Tim Cook, Senior Vice Presidents Eddy Cue and Craig Federighi, and Maps head Patrice Gautier are using the new app to move toward fulfilling a promise to users that the iOS Maps application will eventually live up to the "incredibly high standard" of Apple's customers.
One of the new iOS 8 features according to the reports of 9to5Mac, an upgraded Apple Maps app that comes with every iPhone, iPad and iPod touch thanks to extensive engineering work and acquisitions of several companies such as BroadMap,Embark, and HopStop. The Enhanced data will make the iOS 8 version of Apple Maps more reliable and easier to use, and the app's design has been tweaked to be cleaner and easier to read.
The new application will also be injected with new points of interests and new labels to make places such as airports, parks, train stations, bus stops, highways, and freeways easier to find.
Another great feature from the iOS 8 is an enhanced public transit direction service. It was late last year that Apple had been planning to release transit support in iOS 8, and now they are indicating that the plan is on track to be executed. Using data acquired via acquisitions and various partnerships, transit will be deeply integrated into the new maps application.
Transit directions allow a person to use an iPhone to travel from one destination to another via public transportation. iOS 8 Maps will be able to tap into train, subway, and bus data and provide enhanced directions to major airports. The functionality will exist in major cities, such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York, and will expand to other locations across the United States and potentially other countries across the world around the public launch of iOS 8.
With this features being shown here right now, no doub't iOS 8 software is something to look forward to for happy Apple customers.
