Respawn entertainment's Titanfall has saved Xbox One by boosting its sales this month. Will Titanfall continue the momentum that it receives, and what is PlayStation 4's answer to the sudden change? Will it have on effect on the ongoing "Console Wars" of Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4?
Xbox One has betted everything on Titanfall and with the stroke of luck it did happen. Digital Spy and Gamepot have both reported that Microsoft pulled in a 96% gain in weekly sales because of the launch of Titanfall with a price cut, a special bundle edition of the Xbox One, and the game itself. According to Gamespot, 70% of the Xbox One sales were the Titanfall bundle edition
This has been a good day for Microsoft, but you have to wonder what would be Sony's rebuttal on this one? Well with Sony no doubt they have something up their sleeves as the PS4 still has a set of upcoming games such as Infamous: Second Son and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, there sure to be another tide changing in the sales. Titanfall may have quickly rose to the top but don't count PS4 out.
According to Time, Sony, in terms of price point basis has already took advantage from the very beginning. At $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, the PS4 has had luck in sales, topping it worldwide with some 6 million units sold as of March 2. Though the PS4 started off somewhat shaky in the U.S., it did have to contend with the demands fo fifty-three markets, while the Xbox One was only sold in thirteen countries at the time.
In January and February, the PS4 topped the Xbox One in unit sales, but Time noted that the Xbox One closed a large portion of the sales gap between the two during February, and some of that may have been due to the anticipation of Titanfall. In January, the PS4 was reported to have sold twice as many units as the Xbox One. In February, the gap in sales fell to only tens of thousands. CNET reported that Microsoft's Xbox One sales were up to 90 percent of Sony's PS4 sales based on NPD data.
