Chris Evans, who is appearing as Captain America in the upcoming film "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," states that he will be quitting acting. In an interview with Variety magazine, Evans says, "If I'm acting at all, it's going to be under Marvel contract, or I'm going to be directing. I can't see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I'm contractually obligated to do."

Aside from "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," Evans is contractually obligated to complete three more movies for Marvel, including next summer's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," which features a star studded cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johanssen, Elizabeth Olsen, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Evans' contract is a six movie deal which he signed when he joined the Marvel universe in 2010 as mild-mannered Steve Rogers in the first Captain America movie. Since then, the actor has completed three films as Captain America, including last summer's $1.5 billion grossing hit film "The Avengers.". Next, Evans is off to London to shoot the "Avengers 2" movie, after his press tour for the April 4 release of "The Winter Soldier."

After retiring from acting at the ripe age of 32 years old, Evans expresses an interest in directing. "I've known for a while I wanted to direct. But (time) never really opens up. There's another movie to do, there's another acting job. It just got to a point where I was like, you know what - I have to do this," the actor tells Variety. Turns out Evans spent this past winter directing his debut feature, a film about a love story titled "1:30 Train," starring Alice Eve (Star Trek) as a young woman who misses her train home and spends the night in Manhattan talking to a street musician (played by Evans). The film was shot in the Lower East side in New York City over just 19 days for $3 million.

From the interview, it sounds like Evans is not falling out of love with acting as much as looking for some more creative control. Despite having a very financially successful career as a superhero actor, Evans expresses lament about the fact that he is unable to express himself artistically through acting. "No one sees my good little movies, man," Evans says in the interview. Perhaps being behind the camera will give the creative control that he really desires.
