Shameless Season 4 started off in a great way for Fiona, with her new job and new clean-cut boyfriend. In this episode, in stark contrast to how season 4 of Shameless started, Fiona is on the bus to a correctional facility. It's 3 hours away. "Hope you peed," says her seatmate. Turns out her chatty seatmate stabbed her boyfriend's wife in the stomach. Fiona's eyes widen a little, and then a little more when the murderer says nonchalantly, "Oops."
Frank got his liver transplant. His hospital roommate, a little girl named Emily, is waiting for a heart for her cardiomyopathy. Her dad isn't around. "Men can't handle tragedy so they leave," Emily says to Sammi.
Debbie's friends are using words like "bangastic" to describe a cute new boy named Henry in biology lab. It's disturbing to think that in our society where sexual media content is common, 13 year old girls believe that's how they have to be. However, Henry seems more interested in Debbie and asks her if she wants help with her biology lab.
Sheila, with her five Native American children in tow, comes to visit a still sleeping Frank. She rather violently tries to wake Frank, during which Emily pulls the curtain back to meet all the kids.
Bonnie and Clyde, er, Carl, are robbing a vending machine. Granted, they're doing it so that Bonnie can get something for each of her 7 siblings. In a fit of middle school passion, Carl tells Bonnie that she and her homeless siblings can stay with him for the winter.
Debbie may be about to fall in love. Yay! After about it all the wrong way, innocent, normal Henry gives her a dead frog's heart in a petri dish. It's not quite diamonds, but it's true love, guys.
Meanwhile, Sheila, Emily, the adopted kids, and a reluctant Sammi are doing a crazy dance. It doesn't seem to be working, until Carl comes by and punches Frank in the nuts.
"Post-operative delirium" which often happens when a heavy dose of sedation was used an operation. Knowing Frank's drug history, this is most definitely the case.
While Henry draws a perfect pencil drawing of Debbie (is this guy for real?), Henry and Debbie plan on meeting behind the stairs so that he can kiss her. Henry is weirdly mature.
At the celebration for Mikey's son's baptism, Ian and Mikey are in a fight; they are a "couple" but Mikey is not free to be open about it. To make matters worse, the one man that Mikey is afraid of, his dad, is back from jail.
Lip and Liam take a selfie to send to Fiona. Lip hilariously asks whether Fiona has found a girlfriend yet. He checks his grades, and he got a C in English Literature. If you haven't gained more respect for Lip this season, you should by now. The poor kid is doing double duty playing dad and being a full time college student. Whew. Fi-fi needs to get out of prison already.
Debbie and Henry are kissing below the stairs, when by asking her out to the dance, Henry is able to get her to take her shirt off. Warning, ladies, don't take your shirt off in a staircase at school. A bunch of kids, including Seema, appear and start taking photos of a shirtless (but with bra) Debbie. It turns out Henry is Seema's stepbrother and she gave him $50 to "seduce" her. Ugh.
Lip, expecting Amanda and her parents, allows Bonnie's siblings to stay until after dinner. Unfrotunately, the ring at the front door is child services.
Fiona is bunk #44. She may be poor and uneducated, but she is not violent or bad. Her new roommates are, to say it nicely, easily agitated. It's scary to think how this experience could change her.
Amanda, meanwhile, has brought her parents, who are "white" as she loudly announces. She was "bought from a whorehouse." Interesting new facts are revealed about interesting Amanda. Initially, it seemed like privileged Amanda was just taking Lip for a whirl, but now knowing her background, it seems possible that Lip and Amanda could become self-made college power couple of sorts.
In the sweetest thing he's said in a very long time, Frank apologizes to Emily about leaving Fiona and Lip in the park while he and Monica were doing drugs. Meanwhile, father-less Emily plays right into the part of Fiona.
"When did you become so dramatic?" Mikey demands.
"When I realized how big of a p***y you are," Ian says. "You're afraid to be who you are."
And then Mikey says it. He announces to a whole room of drunks, including his father, that he's gay, which quickly evolves in a huge bar fight. Terry gets carted off to jail again and the officer cuffing Ian and Mikey lets them off because he'd rather go home to his husband than do paperwork.
After seeing the chaos of Lip's house, Amanda's parents predictably offer Lip $10,000 to go away, which he takes (how could he not in this situation?). That might sound harsh, but it was Amanda's plan all along. Like I said, power couple.
Frank is taken back into his hospital bed after wandering around looking for food. Poor little Emily has met her demise before her heart transplant and Frank believes that Fiona has died.
Only one more episode left of Shameless Season 4!
