After reportedly being shot and wounded at his mother's funeral by his nephew, "Love and Hip Hop Atlanta" star Benzino described what happened at the scene of events.

According to Boston.com, Benzino, real name Raymond Scott, didn't plan on going to his mother's funeral in order to keep the peace amongst family members. However his attempt to avoid trouble failed when he coincidentally drove into his mother's procession when trying to meet a friend on Route 3 in Plymouth, Ma.

"I looked over, there was a car, and all I saw was a gun shooting at me," said Benzino while he conducted a phone interview in his hospital bed.

He also described how he tried to avoid the seven or eight shots fired at him.

"I was trying to duck and dodge, drive around it, maneuver the car," explained Scott. "I was bleeding a lot. I was driving with my thumb in my shoulder to try to stop the bleeding."

The shooter was none other than the Boston native's nephew, Gai Scott, who shot his uncle twice.

After being wounded in the back and upper arm, the CEO of Hip-Hop Weekly stopped and got out of his car to flee the scene on foot.

Due to family feuds over finances and the care of his deceased mother, Mary Scott, the VH1 reality show personality didn't attend the funeral.

Saturday, the day before the funeral, Benzino said farewell to his mom at the funeral home where her wake was held.

"I didn't want to be around them," Scott said. "I felt like, I didn't want any problems. I can love my mother and there doesn't have to be no problems with family."

He thanks Duxbury, Ma, firefighters that he is alive today to tell his story.

"Those guys were super, super nice and helpful," he said. "I was in pain, and they were trying to keep me calm."

Benzino didn't predict that the family feud would trigger violence, especially since he had supposedly given the relative involved in the incident thousands of dollars. He said, "Money, jealousy, and envy" is what can break a family bond.

"You hear about these things, but you never think it could happen to you," said the rapper. " At the end of the day, my mom was in my corner. Who knows what would have happened if she wasn't in my corner?"

Martin Leppo, Benzino's lawyer, claims his client will be released from the hospital Monday (March 31st). His alleged attacker, Gai, will be arraigned at Plymouth District Court on the same date.
