The How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) finale appropriately opened at the beginning, September 2005, when the group first meets Robin. If you're wondering why meeting Robin would be the beginning of htis story, it makes sense because the love triangle of Robin, Barney, and Ted is a huge pivot in terms of plot for the entire series. Before Robin, they were just a gang of friends hanging out. After Robin, it was the story of "How I Met Your Mother."

This episode was a mix of old stuff and new stuff, just as good series finale would be.

Flash forward to Robin and Barney's wedding (don't you love television time travel machines?). Ted sees the mom aka bass player. The entrance of a new important character means the entrance of a new story line.

"24 hours from now, my life will be completely different," Ted says to an elderly woman sitting next to him on the bench, when she encourages him to talk to the bass player. Whatever you think will happen in your life rarely will. Everyone in the real and television world knows that!

BIG SPOILER #1: The Mother is getting a boob job! Just kidding. She was pregnant before she and Ted got married.

BIG SPOILER #2: Robin and Barney got divorced 3 years after getting married in Argentina. Also, Robyn is still wondering whether she should have married Ted. As she's leaving a last party at the apartment, she says to a weeping Lily, "The gang is a married couple who I never see anymore about to have their third kid, it's my ex-husband hitting on slutty cops right in front of me, and it's the guy I probably should have ended up with the beautiful mother of his child." Things can never be the same.

BIG SPOILER #3: It's the year 2019. The gang minus Robin are at a sports event "Robots vs. Wrestlers" (small chuckle). Ted and the Mother have a kid together but they're still not married. Barney put together a new playbook. Also, Barney inevitably gets a girl pregnant. It's a surprise that's not at all surprising.

SEMI BIG SPOILER #4: Year 2020, Robin is a world famous reporter and she hasn't seen the gang in a while. Lily is wistful because true friendships are forever.

Barney is the father of a baby girl named Ellie. When he meets her for the first time, he cries. He says to her, "You are the love of my life. Everything I have and everything I am is yours. Forever." And then we cry.

Ted and the Mother were together for seven years and two kids before they got married on a Thursday. And Robin shows up. Because the Mother called her. Okay, she's pretty great.

SUPER BIG SPOILER #5: The Mother dies. And that's why Ted was telling the story to his kids.

BIG SPOILER #6: The Mother's Name is Tracy McConnell. Her initials are TM just like Ted Mosby's.

BIG SPOILER #7: FATE IS REAL. At least on television.

BIG SPOILER #8: Six years after the Mother has passed, Ted still has "the hots for Aunt Robin." His kids make him ask her out. Also, Robin has a lot of dogs. She's a dog lady.

Cobie Smulders told CBS News about the show ending, "I've landed in this place of just sublime gratitude, truly. Because any time I start to get sad about our show, I think about just how long we have been on the air. And now I'm just walking out there into the unknown. And I just start weeping - I don't know when I'm going to work next!"
