The "How I Met Your Mother" serie finale has gotten many viewers in a tizzy; many are saying they hate the series finale, in which Ted Mosby ultimately ends up with "Aunt Robin." In a new interview with The Insider, David Henrie, 24, who plays Ted Mosby's son on "How I Met Your Mother," revealed that he and actress Lyndsy Fonseca, who plays his sister, have known about the controversial ending of the show since season 1.
To make sure that Ted's children with The Mother, Tracy (Cristin Milioti), did not age throughout all nine seasons, the producers filmed all of Henrie's and Fonseca's scenes during the first season back in 2005. Aside from their brief dialogue in the last few moments of the finale, the actors only had a few vague reaction shots as they listened to their father's lengthy, 9 season long tale. "We were sitting on set then out of nowhere everyone leaves. They bring in these contracts, Lyndsy and I sign them. Then the show runners go 'We're going to tell you how the show ends,'" said Henrie.
The finale angered many devoted HIMYM fans as they felt that it did not live up to the title and purpose of the show. Ted (Josh Radnor) finally meets and marries The Mother (aka Tracy McConnell) in the final episode of the series. But soon after, Tracy gets sick and dies. Six years after her death, Ted wants to try again with longtime love Robin (Cobie Smulders), but first has to get the approval of his two children. The reason that Ted was telling the story of how he met his children's mother was really more because he wanted to tell them his entire relationship history under the ruse of saying it's a story about he met their mother.
Henrie must be a great secret keepr because he has managed to keep this plot twist as a secret for almost a decade. "I'm 24 now, but when I turned 21 I started going out with my buddies. Everyone was always asking me 'Dude, who's the mom? Who's the mom?'" he revealed. "People would try and bribe me with all sorts of alcohol, but I kept silent. I didn't tell anyone. I didn't even tell my mother."
Aside from playing Ted Mosby's son on the 9 season long HIMYM, Henrie is also known as Justin Russo on "Wizards of Waverly Place." Lyndsy Fonseca, Ted Mosby's daughter, is also known for being on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, as well as Alexandra "Alex" Udinov on The CW show Nikita. She was also in both installments of the superhero movies, "Kick-Ass" and "Kick-Ass 2."
