Scarlett Johansson is a total badass in the new trailer for her upcoming movie "Lucy." The 29-year-old actress stars as a normal 20 something party girl, Lucy, who unwillingly becomes a drug mule after a crazy night out. She accidentally swallows her cargo and wakes up with superpowers. Morgan Freeman and Analeigh Tipton also star in the movie which will hit theaters on August 8, 2014.
In the trailer, Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) wakes up in a hotel room with a bandage around her stomach. The party girl has become an unwilling drug mule who has to help a gang of unsavory characters transport something "very special." While getting beat-up, she accidentally ingests the contents of the drug package in her stomach and it quickly evolves her into a superhuman - both physically and mentally. She escapes her captors, and goes to the hospital. "I got a pack of drugs inside of me and I need you to take it out," Lucy says to the shocked surgeon in the operating room, a gun pointed to his head.
In the next scene of the trailer, Professor Norman (Morgan Freeman) says to a large group of people in a lecture hall, "It is estimated that most human beings only use 10% of their brain capacity. Imagine if we could access 100%. Interesting things begin to happen." This part of the film sounds eerily similar to the 2011 Bradley Cooper movie "Limitless," when he takes a drug, supposedly based on the narcolepsy medication modafinil, to access more of his brain capacity. Lucy calls the professor and states that she just read all his research on the brain. She thinks he's on the right track. Turns out Lucy is now accessing more than double of her brain capacity that normal human beings do, making us wonder, what was in that blue package in her stomach? Her ability to access her brain capacity increases more and more
The movie seems to answer the question: "What happens when she reaches 100%?" It's an interesting question and this film could certainly be an interesting thriller. Near the end of the trailer, Lucy notes, "It's like all the things that make me human are fading away."
Will you go see Scarlett Johansson in "Lucy" this summer?
