"Palo Alto," a movie based on James Franco's "Palo Alto" short story series, is about teenagers who experience growing pains that deal with identity, experimentation and family problems. After James Franco's embarrassingly inviting a 17 year old high school student to a hotel room last week, it seems that fiction may be following reality in the trailer for the "Palo Alto" movie. "Palo Alto" is a coming-of-age story that follows the life of a shy high school student, April (Emma Roberts), who gets caught in a whirlwind of teenage angst and lust in an affair with her much older soccer coach (James Franco).

Last week, it was revealed that James Franco, 35, allegedly flirted with tourist Lucy Clode, 17, and invited her to a hotel room. Photos and screencaps of their conversation were uploaded to Imgur by an unknown source on April 2, but have been removed. The screencaps reveal that Franco asks Clode where she's from, if she's single and if she wants to meet up if he gets a hotel room; Clode states in the conversation that she's a few days shy of her 18th birthday. Franco and Clode first met while the actor was signing autographs outside the ‎Longacre Theatre, where he currently in "Of Mice and Men." Was this a perfectly timed stunt to promote his new film "Palo Alto" or was this encounter real? It's hard to say. Franco apologized publicly for the incident, saying that social media was a tricky thing. It's unusual that the incident shows up in the same week as the trailer for Palo Alto where he essentially plays an older man in an affair with a high school student.

Gia Coppola, granddaughter of "Godfather" director Francis Ford Coppola and daughter of Gian-Carlo Coppola, made her directorial debut and wrote the script for the movie. "Palo Alto" will be released in select theaters on May 9th.
