Coldplay's new song "Magic" off of their upcoming album "Ghost Stories" now has its own music video. Stylized as a black-and-white silent film, the "Magic" music video shows Coldplay frontman and soon to be ex-husband of Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin, playing two parts. The plot revolves around Cecile, "a beautiful young magicienne," (Zhang Ziyi), Claude, "her mustachioed husband, the famous but drunk magician" (Chris Martin), and Cecile's assistant Christoph (also Chris Martin). Martin defies gravity and levitates in the music video, and also uses his magic tricks to win Cecile away from her abusive husband Claude, fitting the love song "Magic" with a love story about magicians. Cecile wears some fabulous outfits, including sparkly fringe sunglasses, and shows off her knife-throwing skills in the music video. "Magic" was directed by Jonas Åkerlund. "Ghost Stories" is due May 19 from Parlophone/Atlantic Records.
Coldplay previewed their new album "Ghost Stories" in February with a new video for the track "Midnight" back in February. Last month, they played the new album in order of the tracklist at a Los Angeles concert to a crowd of 800; a few days after that, the band played some of the songs off of "Ghost Stories" at their iTunes Fest appearance during South by Southwest.
Martin also recently made headlines when he and wife Gwyneth Paltrow announced their "conscious uncoupling" via Paltrow's GOOP newsletter. They wrote, "We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been," they wrote. "We are parents, first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner."
Martin is also currently appearing as a guest mentor on the sixth season of The Voice as an advisor to the teams of all four of the coaches: Adam Levine, Shakira, Blake Shelton, and Usher.
