Chelsea Clinton is pregnant! Clinton and husband Marc Mezvinsky will welcome their first child later this year according to the BBC. Chelsea Clinton made the announcement at a public event with her mother Hilary in New York at the No Ceilings event, sponsored by the Clinton Foundation and Microsoft. The Clintons were there to address women's issues with moderator and actress America Ferrera at the Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York City. Chelsea currently serves as vice chair of the charitable Clinton Foundation, focusing on global health initiatives.

Clinton said during her speech, "Marc [Mezvinsky] and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year, and I certainly feel all the better - whether it's a girl or a boy - that she or he will grow up in a world full of so many strong young female leaders, so thank you for inspiring me and thank you for inspiring future generations, including the one that we'll be lucky enough to welcome into our family later this year. I just hope that I will be as good a mom to my child, and hopefully children, as my mom was to me."

"Girls: A No Ceilings Conversation" touched on everything from human trafficking, to girls in STEM education, to immigration reform. Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state seemed especially joyful as her daughter announced the news, saying "I'm really excited."

The baby news is not entirely a surprise, as Clinton and husband former President Bill Clinton have made it no secret of their hope for a grandchild. Chelsea said in an interview last October that she and her husband Marc had been planning to make 2014 "the year of the baby."

Hillary Clinton is currently considered a strong contender for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, although she has yet to announce her intent to run.
