Pitch Perfect 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2012 hit movie "Pitch Perfect," has gotten confirmation that the cast will include Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and Rebel Wilson. Director Elizabeth Banks, who makes her directorial debut in the sequel, talked about the movie to Out magazine and said that the film will fast forward Beca (Kendrick) and Fat Amy (Wilson) in their senior year at Barden University. The first movie followed Kendrick's and Wilson's characters through their freshman year at Barden, as they took the Bellas all the way to the national championship. Also, Beca sang "Cups" in the first movie, which became an internet sensation.
In the first "Pitch Perfect," Banks played Gail Abernathy-McKadden, an a cappella commentator who was also a former college a cappella singer. Banks also confirmed to Out that John Michael Higgins, her co-commentor in the first film, will reprise his role. "We will see a little more of Gail and John and delve into their dynamic," she said of her role and Higgins'. She also said there is potential for more of Gail's back-story. Gail was in a college a cappella group called the Menstrual Cycles, however Banks says she will not be singing in the sequel. However, "You're going to learn more about why she has three last names."
Banks said to HuffPost Entertainment about her directing the film."The whole project speaks so much to me and to women and to making women funny in really fun and interesting ways and that's what I'm most looking forward to," the first time director said. "I'm looking forward to letting the girls let loose."
In February 2014, Wilson said to TMZ that rapper Drake will potentially play her love interest in the film. "I love Drake," the actress said. It's probably a joke from the comedienne, but it would be amazing to see Drake drop a few lines in the sequel!
Pitch Perfect 2 is set to be released on May 15, 2015.
