Leonardo DiCaprio has had multiple Oscar nominations but has not yet won Best Actor. However, it's possible that his next big role could be the ticket!
Sony Pictures is moving rapidly to replace David Fincher on its highly anticipated Steve Jobs movie; they are currently in talks with director Danny Boyle ("Slumdog Millionaire") to direct the biopic of the late Apple co-founder, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Boyle is said to have approached Leonardo DiCaprio to star as the titular figure. The Steve Jobs movie will be produced by Scott Rudin; the script was written by Aaron Sorkin and is based on the best-selling biography by Walter Isaacson.
Boyle, who has just recently replaced director David Fincher, would be reuniting with DiCaprio should the two work together on the film. Boyle and DiCaprio worked together on the 2000 movie "The Beach." Fincher was recently removed from teh project because he asked for a big salary. THR reports that Fincher asked for a huge salary of $10 million up front in fees; he also wanted control over marketing during negotiations with the studio. A source with ties to Sony stated that the fee he is seeking is "ridiculous," adding, "You're not doing Transformers here. You're not doing Captain America. This is quality - it's not screaming commerciality. He should be rewarded in success but not up front." Had Fincher's role as director in the Steve Jobs movie pulled through, it would have reunited the team that worked on the 2010 Facebook movie, "The Social Network." The Social Network" team included producer Scott Rudin, writer Aaron Sorkin and Fincher. The movie grossed $225 million worldwide and Sorkin won a best adapted screenplay Oscar.
THR reports that sources caution that neither deals are done. DiCaprio has already committed to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's thriller "The Revenant" for New Regency which will start production in September.
