The "Jem and the Holograms" movie has its cast and has already started filming! Aubrey Peeples, previously seen in "Nashville" and "Sharknado," has her first major film role playing Jem in the highly anticipated live-action Jem and the Holograms film, which will be directed by Jon M. Chu according to the Hollywood Reporter. "So stoked to play Jem and to work with such a great cast and crew!"Aubrey told JustJaredJr. "We are having a splendid time and are so excited to share this experience with the fans." The rest of the cast has also been set, with Stefanie Scott, who starred on Disney's A.N.T. Farm, to play Jem's sister, Kimber; Pretty Little Liars actress Aurora Perrineau will play Shana; and The Fosters' Hayley Kiyoko has been cast as Aja.

Based on the beloved cartoon from the 80s, the film will be produced by Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions, Scooter Braun Productions and Chu. The "Jem and the Holograms" cartoon ran from 1985 to 1988 and chronicled the adventures of Jerrica Benton and her alter ego, Jem, a singer who fronted a band called The Holograms. When the producers made the announcement of the movie, they stated that Jem is being reimagined "for a whole new generation with themes of being true to who you are in a multitasking, hyperlinked social media age." Ryan Landels wrote the script, which centers on an orphaned teenage girl, Jerrica, who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven journey which sends them on an adventure to unlock a final message left by her recently deceased father.

Peeples, who will star as Jem, has already shown off some of her musical chops by starring on the ABC show Nashville as rising country music star Layla Grant. Scott is best known for her role on the Disney Channel's A.N.T. Farm. Perrineau is a relative newcomer; she has appeared on an episode of ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars and and was in the movie A House Is Not a Home. Kiyoko appeared on ABC Family's The Fosters, and her past work includes roles on Wizards of Waverly Place and The Vampire Diaries. She also has a role in the upcoming independent movie Hello, My Name Is Frank.
