Windows 9 Release Date could be as close as 2015, while Windows XP made an exit on April 8, this year. That would mean no support or security patches for the XP. So, basically, you're on your own.
When you think about it, technology moves so fast that in order to stay on tab with competition, even a software giant has to switch and progress from software to software. It does sound a bit counterintuitive to keep changing in search of new clients and new functionalities - computing is sort of like going to new frontiers as said on 'Star Trek' for all those trekkies reading.
