Mike D'Antoni resignation could be prompted by the cold relationship he has with injured Kobe Bryant, aside from the money issues. The offensive guru may take on other NBA teams after taking a time off, probably in another setting where there's less expectation and drama.
DeAntae Prince of Sporting News, wrote that the news "doesn't come as a complete surprise."
"D'Antoni maintained icy relationships with several Lakers veterans, including star Kobe Bryant," he said.
The publication previously reported that Kobe Bryant, the superstar Lakers guard, wanted to play for a different coach next season when he is expected to come back strong when his Achilles tear and fracture of the lateral tibial plateau of his left knee are expected to have healed.
Mike D'Antoni resignation could be seen as jumping the gun in order to leave with bigger money in the bag, particularly when the Lakers reportedly refused his request for the team to pick up his option for 2015-16.
What's in store for Mike D'Antoni?
Matt Moore, CBSSports, said that Mike D'Antoni should take a year off and unwind, probably do some TV jobs since he was quite content until the Lakers came calling.
"The big key for D'Antoni should be to find a team without megastars that he can mold, a team with low expectations so he can get back to surprising people with how good his teams can be," he said.
That was the case with the Phoenix Suns and his "Seven Seconds of Less" offense, where he took a bunch of unknowns, aside from Steve Nash and Amar'e Stoudemaire, and made splash around the league (Steve Nash even picked up two MVPs in the process).
"Oh, and a good idea for him in his year off? Writing a book about what went on with the Lakers. That alone would make him a huge name again," Matt Moore wrote.
