Elder Scrolls Online Review: Some people have said that the Elder Scrolls Online is an affront to all that the series spent building up over twenty years.

Dedicated fans of the series said that the game would be ok if it wasn't for the fact that the Elder Scrolls name had been attached to the game. This is due to the fact that they don't consider it to be a real Elder Scrolls game.

However bear in mind that the Elder Scrolls Online hasn't been the first of spin offs in the series.

The past Elder Scrolls game, Skyrim, did set the bar that all games then had to follow and Oblivion did also set standards at the time of release. Between Oblivion and Skyrim Bethesda released some mobile titles.

The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion came out in 2006 and this was said to be a companion game to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The game came out on mobile phones along with the Nokia N Gage and followed its predecessors, Stormhold and Dawnstar. The Travels series was of course a departure from the traditional Elder Scrolls games.

Of course people can have their own opinion about the concept and game. But something could be missing, the name The Elder Scrolls Online. All of the main entries of the game have been numbered, while the online game hasn't.

So in effect this isn't about to take over the Elder Scrolls line, its more along the lines of a branch title.

Some people have said that Bethesda have been wasting their time on the game as they could have spent that time developing Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout 4.

Others point out that Bethesda have their own teams who are working on the big titles such as these. Bear in mind that they sourced the development of Online to ZeniMax Online Studios as they are specialists in MMOs.

If you don't like Elder Scrolls online there is no reason why you have to go out and buy it and play it. If lack of sales means that the venture fails then we won't hear anything more about it.

The main games in the Elder Scrolls series come onto the market every four or five years. Skyrim came out in 2011 and so we can expect a new game soon.
