Miami Heat superstar Lebron James is not unbeatable, at least that what's the Brooklyn Nets' Paul Pierce thinks as he asked coach Jason Kidd to give him the unenviable task of shutting down the "King."
The Brooklyn Nets enters the second round of the NBA Playoff 2014 match against the defending champions, a clear underdog despite winning the four times in the same number that they met during the regular season.
But according to ESPN, Brooklyn Nets' Paul Pierce, also known as The Truth, approached Jason Kidd in game 2 asking a crack at King James. "I think I've guarded him more than anybody in this gym. I know his tendencies a little bit more and I just try to step up in that role and try to lead that way," he said.
In a column written by Ohm Youngsimuk for ESPN, Brooklyn Nets' Paul Pierce has success against Miami Heat superstar Lebron James in the time he guarded him. In game 2 of their NBA Playoffs 2014 match, for example, he limited King James to just eight points when he checked him.
A significant statistic to take out between their match is that Miami Heat superstar seems content to spot up from 18.6 feet in stark contrast to the 9.6 feet that he averages in field goal attempt against the other Nets players.
Ben Leibowitz of the L.A. Times' Bleacher Report, wrote that nobody in the league is capable of shutting down the two-time MVP. However, the best days of Brookly Nets' Paul Pierce is behind him and Jason Kidd allowing him to focus on Miami Heat superstar Lebron James "may simply be solid strategy."
And even if Brooklyn Nets' Paul Pierce manages to slow down King James, two more superstars in Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh can take over.
"Nobody is capable of stopping LBJ, but it can't hurt to let the savvy veteran try," he wrote.
