The Rio World Cup 2014 released its official music video "We Are One (Ole Ola)" but the Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez World Cup song did not seem to impress the Brazilians.
The Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez World Cup song, which also features a cameo from Claudia Liette for the token Portuguese lines, received online backlash with some calling it plain "terrible" because it was sang by two foreign singers using English as the medium.
Pitbull is a Cuban who is born in the US while Jennifer Lopez is Puerto Rican who lives in New York.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Shakira's version of the "Waka Waka" was greeted with initial disdain because Africans thought that the official World Cup song in 2010 should be sung by an African.
However, there's a difference between the "Waka Waka" and the Rio World Cup 2014 song
"We Are One (Ole Ola)," Shakira's song was catchier.
"Hey, Fifa, is there still time to get Shakira to sing Waka Waka," wrote one Twitter user.
In Fact, Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez's World Cup song was so universally hated among the Brazilians that it unintentionally launched Shakira's "Waka Waka" to the top of the trending topics on Twitter, the Times reported.
According to Mashable, the Rio World Cup 2014 song was very generic to every Pitbull video there is such as the recording artist rapping and singing, surrounded by girls "in minimal clothing."
"Pictures of Brazilian flags and soccer players are meant to serve as a general backdrop, but it's mostly just Pitbull reminding us that we are one," the website added.
While Jennifer Lopez can be seen in the "We are One (Ole Ola)" video, her moment lasted just a few seconds that she probably spent more time in hair and makeup." In fact, Brazilian pop star Claudia Leitte steals the show from her, Mashableadded.
