Michael Schumacher update came from his manager Sabrine Kehm, who dismissed rumors about the former F1 champion's alleged recovery. "Schumi's" fans, meanwhile, remain positive as they continue to anticipate the famous race driver would awaken from his coma.
The information was relayed by reporter Nicol Pohl of the German newspaper BILD, who was able to personally get in touch with Kehm.
"Schumacher awake? Sorry, but those rumors from Spain apparently not true. Kehm just texted me she hadn't confirmed anything to RTL," Pohl said.
"Schumi" is still in a medically induced coma after an unfortunate skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013. While the doctors or the family has released no further Michael Schumacher update, a number of rumors about his awakening from the coma have surfaced. Kehm, however, was quick to dispel them.
"There is a distinction between being awake and being conscious, the latter meaning there is an ability to interact with his surroundings," Kehm told Bild.de "I don't want to disclose details out of respect for the family, but we have no doubt at all in the abilities of the doctors treating Michael, they are experts in their field."
Kehm continued to express her disappointment towards other media outlets that tend to misquote doctors who are not even treating the race driver yet dishing out Michael Schumacher updates under the pretense of expertise in the given situation.
"What upsets the family most is media quoting doctors who are not treating Michael and untruths are constructed from these," Kehm explained. "It has been a problem when outsiders comment and it means we have to set the record straight, even when we don't want to."
Meanwhile, fans have continued to relay their messages of support for Michael Schumacher. Jennie Gow of BBC collected and posted their messages on her website.
"Michael, we are all praying every day, for you, your family, and your speedy recovery soon. God, you and only you can do the miracle that this family needs. Touch this man, as he needs to be touched. In your precious name, I ask these things. Please keep this family strong and let them see a miracle with his recovery soon,"one fan wrote.
"I used to take my wife & son Michael (named after you) to dinner whenever you won. They are hungry. Win this one," another message reads.
