An interesting development in this week's ratings was the fact that "A New Leaf" attracted more interest as its main character took a new direction.
Attorney Kim Suk Joo, played by Kim Myung Min, is representing a client who is not a major money player and whose case might very well cost his law firm some big cases. That's not the way the old ambitious cutthroat Kim Suk Joo would have acted.
Now that he is taking a case purely to see justice being served, the idealistic Lee Ji Yoon, played by Park Min Young, is eager to help her lawyer boss win his case. His character owes his change of direction to amnesia but it's still nice to see him do the right thing. Viewers agreed pushing the drama into the double digits with ratings of 10.2 percent. That's an 0.8 percent raise in ratings from the previous episode and the drama's highest ratings yet.
But despite this increase "You're Surrounded" remained in first place yet again. That drama also saw a change in the way people perceived an important character. Cha Seung Won's character, the hot-tempered but legendary detective Seo Pan Suk, has up to this point not been very nice to his rookie detectives. And they have not much cared for him. That's especially true for Lee Seung Gi's character Eun Dae Gu. He still thinks that Seo Pan Suk may be involved in his mother's murder.
But this episode, Seo Pan Suk praised the rookies for their hard work and they began to see him in a new light. They learn he has been bringing flowers to a crime victim and see that he is a softie at heart. The rookies also for the first time begin to feel just a little excited about becoming detectives.
"You're All Surrounded" did have a kiss scene and that often helps the ratings. The kiss scene was combined with a shower scene. Lee Seung Gi leaves the shower and Go Ara's character Eo Soo Sun runs into him and kisses his chest. She tries to detect what body wash he uses by the scent and he throws her out of the house.
Did that raise the ratings to 13.2 percent from the previous 12.4 percent? It did not hurt.
"Golden Cross" meanwhile came in third with ratings of 7.5 percent. The drama, starring Kim Kang Woo and Lee Si Young, concerns a secret society named The Golden Cross and the man who plots revenge against them after they frame him for a murder.
