Since then the former Formula One champion's skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013, he has been in a medically induced coma, "showing some signs of consciousness."
Recently, Dr. Didier Martin, chief neurosurgeon at CHU Liege, spoke to French website Sudinfo.be to give an overview about Michael Schumacher's current state.
"When a patient is in a prolonged coma, two possibilities exist," explained Martin. ""Either there is a deterioration, or there is a positive development. But if there is progress, it is done over months, not days."
"A patient does not wake up once," he added. It is a popular imaging and it is false."
Manager Sabrine Kehm also clarified her client's most current condition, and has left it all in the hands of medical experts.
"There is a distinction between being awake and being conscious, the latter meaning there is an ability to interact with his surroundings," Kehm told German online publication Bild.de.
"I don't want to disclose details out of respect for the family, but we have no doubt at all in the abilities of the doctors treating Michael, they are experts in their field," she continued.
Fans and fellow sportsmen have continued to send out their messages of well wishes and support for Michael Schumacher. Most recently, Lukas Podolski of English football club Arsenal FC sported a special boot during their FA Cup final match against Hull City.
Written on the boot were the words "Keep fighting Michael", showing that Podolski is behind his fellow German in his fight for survival.
The positive messages have left a glimmer of hope for Michael Schumacher and his family, as they continue to hold on for the hopes of the Formula One legend's full recovery.
"We remain confident that Michael Schumacher will make it through and wake up," Kehm said, in a separate interview with The Daily Telegraph.
