The software giant has unveiled the third generation Microsoft Surface Pro which features a 12in (30.5cm) touchscreen. The firm boasted that at 9.1mm (0.36in) thick. Without the optional Type-cover keyboard, it becomes the "thinnest PC" to be powered by one of Intel's higher-end Core processors BBC News reported.

InformationWeek's Michael Endler wrote, the Surface Pro 3 "represents Microsoft's best attempt yet at Apple-like harmony between software and hardware."

Unlike its predecessors, Microsoft says that the Surface Pro 3 battery life is 10% more than the Surface Pro 2, which is "up to nine hours".

The Surface Pro 3 actually feels like a more comfortable tablet than its predecessors did, weighing just 1.7 pounds and about a third of an inch thick. Mashable says that the screen is looking just as sharp and high-contrast as Microsoft claims -- and the 3:2 aspect ratio doesn't feel weird. The only thing that throws you is, in laptop mode, the Windows logo appearing along the right side rather than below the screen.

The Type Cover keyboard is still detachable and it snaps like the previous ones. On one side of the keyboard is a holder for the digital pen, a better solution than the magnetic pen holder on previous Pro models.

The hinge is impressive. The minimum angle is something like 30 degrees up to 150 degrees. The level of resistance is just right. Users can use the Surface on their lap, at any angle, with minimal keyboard shake.

Mashable described that "the new touchpad is better than previous versions. The first Type Cover had clumsy buttons and last year's was a postage-stamp-sized button that didn't actually click. The new cover has a dramatically improved design -- a single surface that's 45% larger than the previous pad, which also brings back the clickability. It honestly feels a lot like a MacBook touchpad, which is widely regarded as best in class."

The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 pen is pen sized and includes a button that will turn on the screen and launch OneNote. Any note you take is stored in the cloud and instantly shareable across cloud-connected device.

Just "click" the back of the pen and the Surface Pro 3 comes alive as a notepad (via the OneNote pad). Click it again and the note goes into the cloud via OneDrive.

The Surface Pro 3 doesn't include Office upon purchase which starts at $799.
