The Russian tennis star claimed her second crown at Roland Garros and fifth grand slam of her career with a 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 victory on Saturday afternoon, fending off fourth-seed Halep's fightback to lift the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen trophy in front of a packed centre court crowd.
The victory adds to her triumph in the same tournament back in 2012, and follows her 2008 Australian Open title, her 2006 US Open crown and her 2004 Wimbledon success where she burst onto the scene as a fresh faced 17-year-old talent.
With Wimbledon around the corner, Sharapova will be hoping to add a second crown at SW19 to her collection 10 years after last winning the tournament.
She said after the match: "I can't believe it. Seven or eight years ago I would never have thought that at 27 I would have won more titles at Roland Garros than at any other Grand Slam. This tournament means so much to me. It was a tournament when I was growing up that I wanted to win."
