"Maleficent" actress Angelina Jolie has been included in Queen Elizabeth II's birthday honors list and was recognized for her contributions in humanitarian work, with the coveted "Honorary Dame Commander" award.

The 39-year-old actress has been contributing selflessly to U.K.'s foreign policy, and as such received the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George on Friday, June 13, in London, according to Aceshowbiz.

Just this week, Jolie was in London to co-chair a global summit aimed at ending sexual violence in war zones, where she gave key speeches aimed at raising awareness with regard to sexual violence and prevention, in front of hundreds of representatives from all over the world, Contact Music has said.

1,000 other individuals were also included in Queen Elizabeth II's birthday honors list, all of whom contributed greatly to their respective communities and the nation as a whole, USA Today's Entertain This revealed.

Upon accepting her award, the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith actress said, "To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will talk a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine," the Associated Press reported.

Jolie will now join other British and Commonwealth citizens who are allowed to use the title "Dame" as part of their official name, USA Today confirmed.

The "Girl Interrupted" star's contributions to British foreign policy have been ongoing for the past couple of years. Jolie has been working for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and is the founder of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative.

Meanwhile, another foreign celebrity who has received the same honor was award-winning actor Daniel Day Lewis.
